It works for catalysing sustainable development of the industrial sector in the Baltic Sea region; bridging knowledge gaps between countries.

Baltic 21

Baltic 21 is a term used for
  • the initiative and the process to develop and implement a regional Agenda 21 for the Baltic Sea Region in order to attain sustainable development in the region
  • the adopted document, Agenda 21 for the Baltic Sea Region.
Baltic 21 is a joint, long-term effort by the 11 countries of the Council of the Baltic Sea States (CBSS). These countries differ widely as far as economic, social and environmental preconditions are concerned, but they agree on the long-term goals they wish to attain for the region as a whole.

The emphasis is on regional co-operation, and the work is focused on seven economic sectors, spatial planning and on education. The seven economic sectors are: agriculture, energy, fisheries, forests, industry, tourism, and transport.
