SUCCESS STORIES

Forum Environmental Technology North-Western Russia

The aims of the project are to:

  • Promote environmental technology - e.g. Cleaner production, resource efficiency and waste minimisation - in industrial companies in north- western Russia.
  • Facilitate for Swedish environmental technology companies to find a market in Russia for their products and services.
  • Promote co-operation between Russian and Swedish companies.

A combined exhibition, workshop and seminar will be arranged in Russia to create a forum for Russian and Swedish companies. The event will be followed up by offering Russian and Swedish companies assistance in realising their common business ideas.

Implementation

Within the project two seminars were held in two different places in Russia (St Petersburg and Pskov) and one working meeting and one follow up seminar was arranged in Sweden. 20 Swedish enterprises had the opportunity to present their products and knowledge for 60 Russian enterprises, 7 authorities and 8 Russian research institutions.

The co-operation between members of the Baltic 21 Institute for Sustainable Industry has been strengthened and more concrete by the new contacts between Swedish environmental technology enterprises and representatives of the Russian market. The often relatively small Swedish enterprises became more competitive and got a better economical persistence abroad.

During the meeting Russian companies discussed the package of proposals for co-operation with the Swedish companies that specialised in production of equipment for metal-working and machine-building companies, local waste-water treating equipment for cottages, dangerous wastes utilisation and other regenerating and recycling technologies. Leading Swedish companies, members- of the Swedish Environmental Technolo- (SET), which took part in the Forum are:

  • Polyproject Sweden AB,

  • Scanacon AB,

  • Mercatus Engineering AB,

  • Skandinavisk Ecotech AB,

  • Reci Insudtri AB

  • Wash&Circulation Systems AB.

The result is an improved contact between the Swedish and the Russian environmental technology market, with increased chances for export of Swedish technology and know how from 20 Swedish enterprises, and at the same time import of Russian know how and technology.

Another very important achievement of the project is that at least 5 Swedish-Russian initiatives have resulted in either Russian purchase of Swedish technology and know how, or Russian license production of Swedish technology.

Examples of this are a resource effective car wash, possibilities to develop a good Russian technique in the western market and licence production of titan equipment. There is also an interest in Swedish components for water treatment, installation of environmentally harmonised water supply and sewer systems and a contract work for a big brewery.

Russian and Swedish companies are continuously offered help to develop their business ideas.

An agreement was signed between SET  and the Environmental Group of the Chamber of Commerce in St Petersburg. Another agreement was formed between IVL, the Environmental Committee of Leningrad oblast, the Administration of Pskov and the Environmental Group of the Chamber of Commerce in St Petersburg.

Dissemination of the Results

The leading business newspaper "Business Petersburg" and information agencies "Regnum", "Business News Agency", "NewSpb.ru" devote special articles to the "Russian-Swedish Business Forum" in St. Petersburg Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI).

All results of the project are spread within Baltic 21 Institute for Sustainable Industry through its network and home page on the web. Since the project is a success, it might be repeated in the Baltic States and Poland (maybe also in Belarus), and in this way involve several of the member states of the institute.
