Eco-Efficiency

The expression "eco-efficiency" combines the goal for an improved environmental situation with goal of increased economic efficiency. The World Business Council for Sustainable Development gives the following definition:

The "delivery of competitively priced goods and services that satisfy human needs and bring quality of life, while progressively reducing ecological impacts and resource intensity throughout the life cycle, to a level in line with the earth´s estimated carrying capacity".

Thus, when working for higher eco-efficiency both companies and the environment should benefit. Much work is done on implementing eco-efficiency. The work can be evaluated by indicators developed for eco-efficiency measurement.
