| General Objective: |
The general objective of LIFE is to contribute to the implementation, updating and development of Community policy and legislation relating to the environment, in particular, with regard to the integration of the environment into other policies, as well as to sustainable development in the Community.

Type of Actions:
a) Technical assistance projects contributing to the creation of
the necessary administrative capacities and structures for the
environment and the development of policies and action programmes
relating to the environment in non-member countries bordering the
Mediterranean and the Baltic Sea, other than the countries of
Central and Eastern Europe which have concluded association
agreements with the Community.
b) Accompanying measures necessary for the evaluation,
monitoring and promotion of projects, for the exchange of
experience between projects and for the dissemination of the
results of the projects.

Any natural or legal person established in a non-member country
bordering the Mediterranean or Baltic, other than the countries of
Central or Eastern European which have concluded an association
agreement with the Community, and the international organisations
working for the protection of the environment in the geographic
areas in question.
LIFE-Third Countries is primarily directed at national
administrations. However, it is also open to persons or companies
of whatever legal status, residing in eligible countries, who wish
to propose and implement projects at a local, national or regional
(two or more countries) level.

Procedure to be
followed:
Proposals for projects are transmitted by the national authorities
of the non-member countries in question or by international
organisations working for the protection of the environment in the
geographic area in question.
