| General Objective: |
| INTERREG IIIB aims to promote better integration
within the European Union through the formation of large groups of
European regions. It also promotes sustainable and balanced
development within the Union and better integration between the 15
Member States and candidate countries and other neighbouring
countries. Particular emphasis is placed on ultra-peripheral
regions and island regions. It also provides opportunities for
promoting co-operation between groups of regions facing common
problems, such as mountainous areas.
The Baltic Sea Region is one of several eligible areas.
|

 |
Priorities for
Action:
Drawing up regional development strategies at transnational level,
including co-operation between towns or urban areas and rural

Promoting effective and sustainable transport systems, together

facilitate communication between island or peripheral regions.
Promoting protection of the environment and natural resources,
particularly water resources.
